The query letter is your sales pitch and we use the information included in it. Required: The full manuscript saved as an RTF or DOC file and attached, with file name TITLE_MANUSCRIPT where you substitute your book’s title in place of TITLE. (example: WarAndPeace_Manuscript) Required: 2-5 page synopsis of book that details character development, plot, and conflict/story resolution. Attach as an RTF or DOC file with file name TITLE_SYNOPSIS where you substitute your book’s title in place of TITLE. (Example: WarAndPeace_Synopsis) Please be sure to put the following information on the first page of all files: manuscript name, author pen name/legal name, email address, phone number, genre and word count. If you don’t include your phone number, it makes it impossible for us to make The Call! Combined size of both attachments must be under 4 MB in size. We’re unable to send files larger than this to our editors due to restrictions in our email system. If your manuscript is over 4 MB, please remove extra images, delete extraneous styles or font use that may increase file size Please allow 12 weeks for an editorial response to your submission. If a response has not been received after 12 weeks, please follow-up with the submissions@carinapress.com email address. In the subject line of your query, please type your manuscript name, your name, and genre of the manuscript. (Example: Book X by Jane Doe, Romantic Suspense). In the body of the email, please let us know the date it was submitted. If you have questions prior to submission, you can email submissions@carinapress.com However, no attachments, query letters or submissions should be sent to this address. Please choose the best main category for your submission, even if your manuscript is a mash-up of genres. The main categories include all subgenres, so please don't worry if your subgenre isn't specifically listed but instead choose the best main category (ie contemporary, historical and romantic suspense all fit under romance. Crime fiction could go under mystery.) Choosing the wrong category won't get your submission rejected, it simply helps us sort them as they come in. However, please do make sure you're submitting a manuscript that fits our submissions guidelines and is a genre we publish. Current or Past Harlequin Author More Submit to Current or Past Harlequin Author You're a returning Harlequin author and you have a new manuscript. We want to make sure we see your manuscript right away, so we've set up this category just for you. Not to worry, you're not getting lost in some slush pile by submitting via Submittable. This system gives you peace of mind that it's been received (because sometimes our spam filter is a little too aggressive) and also lets us be really organized behind-the-scenes because this system makes it easy to filter and sort. We'll spot your submission right away if you submit using this category! If you are not a returning Harlequin author, please do not use this category for submission. Agented (for agent use only, please) More Submit to Agented (for agent use only, please) If you're an agent and looking to submit a work on behalf of your client, please keep in mind that you're welcome to submit to us directly via email. However, for your convenience we also offer this area for submission of your clients' work. On the first page, the system will ask for a name and address before you log in--this should appear as your agency/agent name and address, not the clients'. Historical Romance More Submit to Historical Romance We are seeking submissions in all subgenres of romance with all levels of sensuality. We welcome everything from the very sweet to the incredibly erotic, featuring couples (or multiples) from all walks of life and sexual orientation, including same-sex romances. Romances should focus on the development of the relationship, as well as external and internal conflict; the heat level should be appropriate to the book and enhance the story, and the primary relationship in the book should offer a happily ever after (HEA) or happily for now (HFN) in an emotionally satisfying manner. Sorry, but one of the couple cannot die or leave the other if it’s to be sold as a romance! Subgenres of historical romance we are seeking include, but are not limited to, Regency, alternate history, unique time periods, pirates, and more. Romantic Suspense More Submit to Romantic Suspense We're actively seeking submissions of romantic suspense. Stories do not need to have an equal mix of romance and suspense; one can take a backseat to the other, but the book must have a romantic focus, with a happily ever after, and the suspense must play a major role in the external conflict of the book. We are particularly seeking series in this category, so in your query letter, please do let us know if this is a planned series. We also welcome series in this category that feature the same protagonists throughout the series, in the same vein as Marie Force's Fatal series, but series can also feature different couples in each book. Erotic Romance More Submit to Erotic Romance Carina Press continues to acquire submissions in the erotic romance genre. M/F, M/M, F/F, non-binary pairings, trans pairings and polyamorous and ménage+ romances are welcome, as are erotic thrillers and stories that push characters’ personal boundaries or delve into the taboo. The language in these books should be frank and explicit, with the sensuality and sexuality of the story integral parts of the plot and themes. Sexual tension and explosive chemistry between the protagonists is key to building the intensity of the story and sexiness of the erotic romance. Additionally, erotic romances must have a happily ever after or happily for now, including when the romance is between two or more characters. Contemporary Romance More Submit to Contemporary Romance We are seeking submissions in contemporary romance with all levels of sensuality. We welcome everything from the very sweet to the very sexy, featuring couples (or multiples) from all walks of life and sexual orientation, including same-sex romances. Romances should focus on the development of the relationship, as well as external and internal conflict; the heat level should be appropriate to the book and enhance the story, and the primary relationship should offer a happily ever after (HEA) or happily for now (HFN) in an emotionally satisfying manner. Trilogies and duologies wherein the first and/or second book end in cliffhangers are permitted as long as the primary romantic arc ultimately ends in an HEA or HFN. Contemporary romance themes include, but aren't limited to, romantic comedy, contemporary cowboys, military romance (these may also fit under romantic suspense ), big city/bright lights, multicultural, rock stars, billionaires, and more. Submissions of contemporary erotic romance should be submitted via the erotic romance category . Submissions of LGBT romance (and non-romance) should be submitted via the LGBT category.
